Whether it is for further success or simple survival, all organisations should strive for continual improvement. But how? For many organisations, any method that achieves continual improvement needs to be not only effective but also practical, easy to use, and affordable. To meet this challenge COER developed the Benchmarking and Performance Excellence Self-assessment (BPES) pack.
BPES enables organisations to undertake a full health check of their managements systems, business drivers and results without external assistance. However, facilitation is available if preferred. BPES has been used by more than 300 organisations from the public and private sector, and from small organisations (5 employees) to large multinationals.
BPES offers the option of having an assessment against either the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence (used in the United States and many other countries such as New Zealand) or the EFQM Business Excellence Model (used throughout Europe and other countries such as the UAE). Both of these business excellence models are similar and reflect the successful management practices of high performing companies. BPES has also been translated into Chinese and Arabic.

www.businessexcellencetools.com. This web site, a joint venture between COER and PYXIS Consulting, also has information on a card-based assessment tool called “Assessor”. Assessor is particularly useful in brainstorming sessions with senior executives to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, and provide them with an understanding of business excellence.
Benchmarking
COER can provide advice and training on benchmarking and its best practice benchmarking methodology called TRADE. TRADE is the preferred benchmarking methodology of the public sector in Singapore, and was developed in New Zealand for the New Zealand Benchmarking Club. It has been used with success by both private and public organisations in many countries. It provides a highly structured but flexible approach to implementing benchmarking projects that deliver results.
COER can deliver workshops (one or two days), training material, and can lead or facilitate your projects.
Regional/national programmes in business excellence and benchmarking
COER has experience of advising and/or implementing major regional or national business excellence and benchmarking programmes in Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Singapore, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. Programmes have been designed to improve the performance of specific sectors (e.g. the Food and Drinks Industry and Public Sector) to programmes that aimed to impact on national competitiveness (New Zealand Benchmarking Club).
COER has unique experience in this area, having led and implemented major initiatives in a number of countries. Dr Robin Mann keeps up to date on approaches used worldwide as chairman of the Global Benchmarking Network (consisting of Benchmarking Centres representing over 20 countries) and having led a review of the Australian Business Excellence Framework in 2005. This project included the first-ever international comparison on how Business Excellence (BE) models were deployed to maximise their engagement and use (16 countries were studied).
